Miami Beach, 40 Years Later

Versace Mansion Miami BeachEverglades birdWhen I was a wee 14-year-old, I visited Miami Beach with my parents. It was the site of their honeymoon — there and Havana, Cuba. Last weekend I returned to Miami Beach and Collins Avenue to find a much-transformed place. So lively and fun and hip. Nothing like what I remembered. Here are a few of my adventures:

Dinner at the Versace Mansion, a visit to the Everglades, a stroll on Ocean Drive to check out the nightlife, visiting the Wynwood arts district (a formerly industrial area of Miami), Cuban food at the Versailles, and more!

Nice photos! I love the art deco there, but the college spring break infusion was at times overwhelming. Those kids party all night! Were you up all night with them?

We were on Ocean Drive one night and it was pretty raucous and lots of younger folks, but we weren’t up all night! I love the art deco, too!
