I just live-Facebooked part of the NRA’s press conference today, which was billed as a response to the Newtown murders. Here are some of my thoughts:
- One of the NRA execs is defending armed guards right now. This is unbearable.
- Now he’s blaming mental illness for the problem. I am sorry, but the thousands of people who kill others with handguns every year in the country are not mentally ill. It’s GUNS that are the problem, not a few unstable men.
- The NRA is unabashed. They are giving a talk right now that blames EVERYONE but themselves.
- If this is what the NRA calls their RESPONSE TO THE MURDERS, This country is going to HELL. ANOTHER PROTESTER IS DISRUPTING THE EVENT. YAY!
- Now he’s blaming the media, video games, journalists. ARE WE LIVING IN A TWISTED, FUTURISTIC SCI-FI NOVEL?
- He just said the best thing to defend against a bad guy with a gun is a GOOD GUY with a gun. NRAblog Unbelievable.
- He is actually saying, What if Adam Lanza had been confronted by ‘qualified armed security’? OMG. NRA Country
- OMG, ‘Can’t we afford to put a police office in every single school’? Is THIS the world he wants to live in? Fine, but I don’t.

I was so happy to see Madea Benjamin and the other Code Pink protester holding their signs up and disrupting the NRA spinfest. Yah, GO CODE PINK

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
I am not a member of the NRA and I do not own any guns. On the surface gun control seems like a wonderful idea but when I looked further, I changed my mind. If a person is mean enough inside or has no regard for anyone else and decides to hurt people, they will do so however they can.
I decided that the best thing I can do is small acts of kindness, hopefully others will join in and maybe those kindnesses will help someone to choose not to hurt others. I believe that police officers in each school is silly – 1st the expense, 2nd, they are needed elsewhere. But having several armed adults in a school setting would be appropriate. Our world seems to be increasingly violent and we need to keep our children safe.
