I’m a First-Time Christmas Tree Buyer

A friend asked me to buy a Christmas tree for another friend (long story), so I went out last night and did it. Being Jewish, I don’t know from Christmas trees. First, I had trouble finding a nice, independent business to buy one from, so I ended up at Home Depot.

I wanted something small so I chose a 4-footer. It was so small I was able to carry it myself and toss it into the backseat instead of rope it to the top of the car. But I got pungent sap on my hands, needles in the car and on the steps and on the rug. The store had no stands left that would fit this small tree, so I ended up buying a bucket and filling it with water and standing the tree in it.

Over the weekend I have to schlep the tree and the bucket to my friend’s house. Merry Christmas!

I wouldn’t let my ex have a tree when we were together, but I softened by the time I got together with Michalle. I had to get schooled in how to select an Xmas tree when I was in my 30s, so I can relate! Definitely wear an old coat when shopping for trees. Having a good stand is critical – nothing worse than having an Xmas tree fall over and the delicate ornaments getting crushed!

I used to have trees in my place years ago with my Christian-born partner, but I never was the one to buy it. It’s nice that you ‘allow’ Michelle to have a tree. ” : )

Thanks. It’s something I could have lived without ever experiencing. ; )

I had a former colleague tell me her family used to get rid of the sap on hands by rubbing peanut butter on them!

Real trees are a total pain in the *ss! I’m going straight for the fake variety. Not to mention it makes me so sad to see all the dying trees lining the streets come 12/26. What a fickle bunch we are!

I know, I hate how these beautiful trees are cut down, used for a week or two, and then thrown out like garbage.
